I have caught many newborn smiles in my career as a professional newborn photographer…but this one takes the cake!! Baby Charlie was the most adorable little fella on Wednesday. We had a great session and it was so good to see my clients Caitie and Paul again. You may remember Caitie from her insanely gorgeous maternity session in December…if you missed it – CLICK HERE. I am also extremely PROUD to announce that my image of Charlie below won Learn Shoot Inspire’s Inspiring Image of the Week for the week of February 23rd, 2013!!!
I have become known for consistently capturing some amazing newborn smiles. In fact, each session it’s something I strive for. I don’t think you can create a more precious piece of art. Freezing this rare moment in time makes me and my clients extremely happy. I mean, how can you not be happy looking at Charlie’s image above?!?! It just warms my heart so much. I think I might print this huge for the studio and if I’m ever having a bad day, I’ll just go in there and let Charlie cheer me up. ;) Lots of photographers have asked me “HOW DO YOU DO IT? How do you capture all of those newborn smiles?” Well If I told you, I’d have to kill you. hehe jk. Babies just reallllly love me. ;) You just have to be quick and know when to wait for it. Or sometimes you get lucky and your little subject will go into a flurry of smiles for about 10 seconds or so, so you have time to steady your camera and capture it (that’s only happened a few times). To show Charlie’s sequence of shots that led up to this one, I made a small little collage in Bridge. Each image was taken within seconds of the other (all within the same minute – someone even asked me to give them the seconds..haha) and I was braced and ready for it. ;)
All of the images above are SOOC (straight out of camera) and my unedited RAW files which are super top secret. ;) The bottom two images were taken SUPER quickly one after the other, so you can see if I had hesitated in the least – I would have missed the big money shot. You probably never thought a newborn could smile so huge!! Well, there is the proof. ;)
A big thank you to Caitie and Paul for choosing and trusting me with their maternity and newborn photography. The rest of their session was just as amazing and I can’t wait to have everything edited and ready to view during our proofing appointment in a few weeks!! <3
