Newborn Photography Raleigh | Lucien 8 Days

First off, I’m totally in love with his name.  Which is crazy for me because having our little boy due in April – the number one hardest thing has been falling in love with a name!!  Secondly…baby Lucien has been deemed the nickname “chunka monk” as he is the most soft and squishy baby I have ever snuggled in my Raleigh studio.  You just want to cuddle him all day long!!!  Good thing I know his mama, who is a fellow photographer who will be photographing the birth of our second son very soon…which means I will get more baby Lucien snuggles in on our planned breakfast date soon!! :)  WIN WIN!!

One of the very fun things about photographing another photographer’s baby is that they always bring really cool props.  Coincidentally, I have a hanging scale on the way to the studio from a prop vendor…so when Amanda told me she was bringing a vintage looking standing scale…I was super excited!  She photographed her first son Michael on this scale when he was a baby, so this image is really special to her and I’m so happy I was able to re-create it for her.  We used the exact same scale, basket and blanket that she used for Michael.  Love how meaningful this image will be to Lucien’s family.photo of baby on a scale

And yes, the scale is right!  All 9lbs 4oz of Lucien’s squishy baby goodness!!  Love those back rolls!!

Another fun thing about today is while Amanda knew a few images that she really wanted, I also was able to put my signature twist on them as well as do my usual signature baby posing that I enjoy so much.  Baby Lucien was born breech (and such an amazing birth story – you wouldn’t believe!) so this pose came super natural to him as this is how he was snuggled in mama’s womb.  You can see how super content he was!!! ;)

And lastly…I did an extra sneak peek for Amanda because these baby toes were just so kissable!!  I always try to grab a few macro shots at each session if I can and if it’s important to mom and dad.  These make for great album photos as detail shots or sometimes even strong enough to stand on their own in a frame as an art piece.

I had so much fun today at our session.  Joe and Amanda are such great people and amazing parents!!  I’m so glad that our winter weather held out so that we didn’t have to reschedule our newborn session (they were calling for icy roads this morning – eep!)…but it turns out there was no precipitation or hazardous roads the entire day (even though they let out schools an hour early).  Since Amanda is a friend/fellow photographer and had her almost 3 year old Michael there for the last portion of the session, I allowed them to stay a little later since they didn’t mind Dylan being there after he got dropped off from school.  I wanted to make sure she got those family shots – which we hadn’t even started by the time the session was up (we must have been talking it up lol).

Here are our two little ones waiting patiently for the mommy/daddy/baby shots to be taken.  LOVE THEM!! :)

There’s a little “behind the scenes” shot for ya! ;)  I promise once my studio is complete with decor, I will do a studio tour feature page for clients to see what the entire studio looks like. :)

Pregnant or expecting a baby?  Make sure to contact me soon as I will be on maternity leave from the end of March through June/July 2014!!  Spots are filling up quickly!  I also love photographing baby and family milestone sessions!!  Info on pricing for all sessions is available in the main menu.  <3
