North Carolina Newborn Baby Photographer | Lilliana – 8 weeks!

Sweet sweet baby Lilliana was welcomed back to the studio this morning for a very special follow up appointment.  She was born with hip dysplasia and needed to wear a harness full time in order for her hips to properly align and grow.  I urged her parents to still come for the newborn session to capture her as she was in the first two weeks of life.  There is something so different about babies and in just a few weeks – everything can change about their look.  Her parents agreed and I offered for them to come back when the harness could be off to try and capture those sweet nakey baby poses that her mom adores and had wished for.  I have had success posing babies up to 6 weeks old – but posing is usually limited, babies are stiffer and not as used to being in the womb anymore and they are also more difficult to get to sleep as well as stay asleep through posing, etc.  Lilliana was a dream this morning.  I am so glad her parents have photos of her at about 12 days old because she looks like such a big baby to me here!!  She is so much more solid, her face is more full and those lashes are to die for!  She took about 40 minutes to fall asleep but I enjoyed feeding and cuddling her on and off with mom.  She kept cooing and looking straight at me with this adorable smile (which I caught later in the session after she woke up!)…I wanted to cry…she was so adorable and so perfect.

I prepared Lilliana’s parents to go in with low expectations for the session and we would just get what we could in about an hour.  If she slept – great!  If not, we would just wrap her up, use some props/headbands and capture her as she is at this stage in her life to get some extra shots for their gallery.  I feel so lucky that Lilliana was so sleepy and posable today.  Once she was fed and lulled to sleep, she was OUT!  I am so thrilled with what I was able to capture for mom and dad.  When Lilliana decided to wake up after about 45 minutes, I laid her on her back for some awake shots with the same wrap we used during her first newborn session.  She was so alert and so extremely happy.  Such a joy to see her and her mom again today!!  I am so happy I invited them back for a follow up newborn session and that I am able to give a small 2nd set of images that I know her parents will truly cherish.
