Meet my good friend Stephanie! She is the last of the girls from book club to welcome a little one into the world and she broke “tradition” of having a boy (the rest of us all had boys one after another)!!! I couldn’t be more excited for her and her husband Aaron to be welcoming a baby girl into this world in March. Steph looks absolutely gorgeous in this photo and I’m so happy to be able to capture this exciting time in her life. We had a blast tonight in my home studio. I have so much fun at my maternity sessions and a few laughs are always had at some of the awkward but hysterical moments. Maternity posing is all about precision (and trying not to laugh when you feel funny posing). I always tell my clients to just relax and have fun. What I ask of them may “feel funny” or awkward but I promise that it looks good!! I’m so glad that they trust in my work and portfolio.
With my style being soft and sweet, I like to use sheer to semi-sheer fabrics. This makes for some interesting conversation during my shoots…mainly the part where I prompt my models to get down to their knickers – since I knew Steph, I accidentally blurted out “ok now take off your pants!”…of course I didn’t mean it that bluntly but we both busted out laughing (The fabric in this image is semi-sheer and her black pants would have shown through). The laughing part is actually a great thing…I’m so glad that my clients and I can laugh together, as it relaxes them and I end up getting some beautiful natural smiles out of them. Even though we only spend an hour together at the maternity session, by the end I feel like we have fostered such a great relationship going into the newborn session just a few short weeks later when I get to meet their sweet babies (the best part)!
